On 27 March 2021 Budimir Šobat from Croatia held his breath for 24 minutes 37.36 seconds. It’s an impressive world record, but if he’d held on for just another 10 minutes, it would have matched the travel time from Maldon to Rookery Hill, where Jammers take on East Thurrock United FC this Saturday.
Some may argue it’s not as scenic as Bury St Edmunds, but who needs the ruins of a Benedictine abbey when you have DP World London Gateway PLUS the largest land bank for the development of warehousing, distribution facilities, and ancillary logistics services.
East Thurrock are the only team in our league to have won their last five matches, but with last Saturday’s first league win under our belt, and the impressive performance against Braintree (a team two leagues above us) on Tuesday night, there’s no reason why we can’t bring their run to an end.
Away support has been great these last few weeks, and I know the team really appreciate it. It does make a difference, and we need to keep that going if we’re to help the team move out of the ‘danger zone’.
I know there’s a few supporters needing a lift, so if you’re intending to drive and have space, please let us know. Not only will you being doing your bit to bolster numbers, but you can split the petrol and save a few quid.
Whilst it’s my birthday on Saturday, don’t feel obliged to give me a card full of money. Instead, I’ll let you buy me a beer as we cheer on the lads together. COYJ
